In wiki land, we've had a working implementation of the idea for a while now. We call it "Plog"- personal log servers. It also has an attached store of meta-data about a user. We're still developing the idea, but we have working prototype. Right now, we only have instructions on how to adapt MoinMoin to make the necessary pings, but it's about to be implemented into Pwiki2.
Meanwhile, Slashster, the Open Source Friendster Clone, has hit version 0.1 and the code is there for the taking. Orkut is sooo last week.
